Our Story

Hannah Shepherd is a Registered Veterinary Nurse with over 39 years’ experience in the veterinary profession and is a proud BVNA member. She founded zumi after many years working in practice and seeing both how much pressure veterinary teams are under, and how many different ways there are to support pets and their families.

zumi is a pet care app that connects pet owners with Registered Vet Nurses for in-home care. It offers another way for owners to access professional support for their pets, helps veterinary teams extend care beyond the practice, and gives RVNs more flexible ways to use their skills.

The idea behind zumi is to make skilled, familiar pet care more accessible, and to support both pets and the people who care for them.

Outside of work, Hannah spends time with her family, goes to the theatre, unwinds at yoga, and is usually found with her rescue pets Loula (a terrier cross) and Toast Malone (a ginger cat). She is Chair of Trustees for the Michael Guest Charitable Foundation, and has a long-standing interest in charity work, wildlife, and conservation, including volunteering abroad.

Hannah created zumi after almost four decades in practice, driven by a desire to support veterinary teams, broaden access to care, and create more flexible, fulfilling opportunities for RVNs.
